Reflection on the Semester
I thoroughly enjoyed every assignment that was given in this module. Whilst my skills in creating abstract pieces is still a little lacking, I felt that I could create artworks that are at least more geared towards self interpretation rather than a strong narration, which is something that I was more used to from illustrating.
The work itself was also quite enjoyable. During the first few weeks we were instructed to use physical mediums which was a breath of fresh air compared to the large influx of knowledge on digital software from other modules. Moving on later, I also enjoyed incorporating my own hobbies into my later works in the semester. As I enjoy creating illustrations digitally, I find some of these assignments and projects a way to practice certain techniques while working.
Dr. Charles was also overall a fantastic lecturer to have on this module. His keen eye for details and imaginative interpretation of all the students' works compliments the open-ended nature of the given assignments. It does inspire creativity, at least in my case, to look at not only my own work but the work of others as well with a different perspective and try to see what an artist is trying to convey which might not be obvious on first glance.
